This year the pre Oscar parties have for the most part been toned down. There is a noted reticence towards shows of ostentation. Madonna and Prince will not be hosting an Oscar Party this year. Celebrities will be making the rounds of the Oscar Gift Suites says Reuters in a Star Phoenix post on the Canada.com site today. The following is noted about our suite, the one Nourot Benician Glass will be gifted in, at the SLS Hotel.
"The posh hotel suites where fashion designers, jewelry makers and cosmetic companies pamper the stars, remain a stop on Oscar week lists. But charity also will be emphasized in the give-away suites with guests given the option of donating products or money to others, said Gavin Keilly, founder of gift suite organizer GBK Productions."
What is known is that "Slumdog," with a cast of mostly unknown Indian actors is clearly favored to win best movie. Star Dev Patel is slated to visit GBK's Oscar Gift Lounge at the SLS Hotel this week. No confirmation on his co-star Freida Pinta, but we are hoping she will make it down too. The Slumdog movie has wons raves from Hollywood producers, directors and writers, many of whom also belong to the Academy. The movie's British director, Danny Boyle, is the front-runner for the directing prize.
