Thinking of the Real Mother Goose Today

The great Real Mother Goose Gallery of American Crafts and Stan and Judy Gilles were in the spotlight in the Buyer's Market blog on August 27, 2008. This fine establishment was one that was a big help to Nourot Studio in the early eighties. The time since then has seen much change in American Crafts, the artists in this market and the state of crafts in general. The Real Mother Goose that started with a small location in Portland on Yamhill Street grew into a craft enterprise that spanned three locations. And they are still going strong after more than three decades.
Theirs was one of the first galleries to have a usable inventory report that actually helped the process of getting the stores to order and sell more efficiently. Stan and Judy made it all look so easy and were never ones to take up your time in the booth going over the "spreadsheet" to see they really needed just a few small reds and blues. Our appreciation of them is huge. When customers buy one piece of ours at the Real Mother Goose, it is almost assured that they will be buying another, since the service and courteousness was so memorable. Correct us if we are wrong, but more than once they have won the Buyer's Market Top Retailer in America Award. Job well done Stan and Judy.
