Learn to Blow Glass

It's finally going to be possible to make your own glass at the Nourot Studio! We have partnered with Walnut Creek Civic Arts to offer a one day workshop.

August 6, 2011 from 9AM until 3PM at our studio here in Benicia, CA.

There are 5 slots left, so hit the link above and sign up. Brian Giambastiani and Nick Nourot will be helping us with the students.

In this class you will learn the basics of how to blow a piece hot glass from the hot molten stage to the finishing. Each student will gather, shape and blow their own creations. Nourot Studio will provide all tools, colored glass decorations, and safety equipment. All you need to do is bring your ideas and wear a long sleeve shirt and closed toe shoes.

Crucible Giving Classes for Adults and Kids

Who said Spring Break was just for kids? Break away from your day job for a week of creativity glass blowing in Berkely, California. The Crucible’s Adult Weeklong Workshops are great for those of you out-of-staters who’ve been itching to take part in Crucible classes.

Many have asked about glass making lessons, and this is a local opportunity. Just like summer camp for big kids. You can learn one of several disciplines over the course of a week. The Crucible is known for other kinds of classes aws well like Welded Sculpture, Blacksmithing, Foundry Fundamentals, Glass Flameworking, Intro to Jewelry and Metals, and Beginning Woodworking.

Hudson Beach Classes in the News

Classes start at $80 for the one-hour “Taste” course. You can take the class solo or bring a a friend and make it a date at no additional charge. And with Valentine’s Day right around the corner, this may just be the perfect gift for your artsy-crafty loved one. The studio is offering a Valentine’s Day weekend special: Call on February 13th or 14th and receive a one-hour class at a reduced rate of $65, which you can then take anytime after Valentine’s Day.

Glass Camp for Kids Opens

Glass Camp program at the New Orleans School of Glassworks is starting next week. This is for 10-17 year olds, and is a lot of fun.

"We will be making lots of beads and animals and other small glass items all summer long. Along with the print and metal department, we are hoping for a fun and creative summer." says Andrew Pollack, coordinator for the flame worked glass department.

They curently have good enrollment and enough glass for the first few weeks of camp, but more sign ups are needed.

They especially need: more glass, whether scrap or full rods, especially 96 and 104 compatible glass. "We use this kind of lampworking glass," confides Pollack, " predominately during the summer to introduce the kids to the processes of making glass beads. We can always use old hand tools and eye-glasses and such, as well."

The New Orleans Glass School and Printmaking classes are a non-profit school with 501c3 status. All donations are tax deductible to the full extent allowed by law. The school has still a few spots for campers. The furnaces are up for campers the first two weeks, till June 15, then just glass torch working and lathe, enameling, printmaking, books, metal, and a number of other departments throughout the summer.
