Groups that like glass

Hi! Sorry we have been distracted with the start up of our furnaces after being off for a month so the blog hasn't had any new posts of late. But now comes this story in today's Vancouver Sun about tonight's British Columbia Glass Art Association dinner. We'll try to keep you posted on bits about such groups in case you are in that area and can take advantage of knowing about them. The speaker, in case you do not know, is the artistic director of the most prestigious art glass school in America, the Pilchuck School in Stanwood, Washington.

"The Glass Dinner", B.C. Glass Arts Association's dinner is a feast for eyes and taste buds, featuring Italian cuisine and glass art, with speaker Ruth King, of the Pilchuk Glass School, founded by Dale Chihuly , (Jamie Carpenter and of course our own Micheal Nourot!), in 1972. Party is at La Terrazza, 1088 Cambie, Aug 21, $120, 604-338-8143, bcgaa.org.

To find out more about Pilchuck School's October Auction go to: Pilchuck School's site. The open to the public event in Seattle is where you can see the works of 250 noteable glass artists work before "they enter private collections." Sounds like a not to be missed time.

This annual auction at Pilchuck has undergone a huge transformation over the years. It began as a mid summer BBQ and get together to sell off some of the stuff students wanted to make money on. The school naturally in the Chihuly fashion has turned it into a media and collector's event that has outgrown the school site for a venue. This year it is a four day extravaganza in downtown Seattle with satellite events all around the city. Studios tours, dinners, cocktail receptions, curator talks and the like are now part of the fun. The tickets for the four day event are quite pricey but space is limited so reserve now.
